Belmond occupies a colonial-style hacienda of rare beauty: the building was built in 1959, but looks exactly like a 19th-century palace. The jungle that surrounds the hotel for many kilometers extends inside: the walls of the rooms and lobby are decorated with paintings of parrots and tropical plants.
