The hotel occupies an old mill, built in the early 20th century from bricks specially imported from Manchester. The modern layout and interiors were designed by Philippe Starck, and you can feel his steady hand here: passionate red velvet everywhere, Edwardian Regency-style furniture dashingly mixed with portraits of Mao Zedong and Elizabeth II.
